Preschool Program

School Readiness

At Jolly Frog Kindergarten, our School Readiness Program supports children to develop the skills, confidence and independence needed for a smooth and successful transition to primary school. Our program is delivered by qualified educators and guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), with a clear focus on preparing children for the expectations of a structured school environment.

We support children to manage routines, make choices and develop independence in everyday tasks such as packing their belongings, following instructions and taking responsibility for their learning. Children build positive relationships, learn to work collaboratively, regulate emotions and develop resilience — key skills for starting school. This supports children to enter school with confidence and the ability to participate in a structured learning environment.

We foster strong communication and early literacy skills through group discussions, storytelling, early writing experiences and structured programs including Reading Eggs and the Macquarie University Pre-Lit Program, supporting phonological awareness and language development. We also introduce foundational numeracy concepts including counting, patterns, problem-solving and number recognition.

Children engage in STEM-based learning, including early coding and robotics through activities such as programming Bee-Bots, encouraging logical thinking, problem-solving and curiosity. Fine motor development is supported through our Finger Gym program, strengthening the muscles needed for writing and everyday tasks.

Through structured group times, children learn to listen, follow instructions and participate in a classroom-style setting. Our program reflects a structured approach to early learning, helping children become familiar with routines, group learning and classroom expectations.

We support each child's transition to school through strong connections with local primary schools, including Northmead Public School and Westmead Public School, and provide opportunities for children to become familiar with the school environment.

Our program is balanced with play-based learning, ensuring children continue to learn through exploration, creativity and meaningful experiences while building the essential skills needed for school and beyond.

At Jolly Frog Kindergarten, school readiness is about building confident, capable children who are ready to thrive at school.
